Legalization of Industrial Hemp Farming in the USA

Thesis Statement:  Removing industrial hemp from the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 will allow US farmers to become important contributors to this important and profitable industry.  Farming, and manufacturing will increase employment opportunities and revenue.

I.       History of Industrial Hemp

    A.    Hemp farming in the USA prior to 1930

2.      Important facts about hemp - over 25,000 uses  

    B.     Hemp farming in the USA after 1930

II.    Controlled Substance Act of 1970

A. Description of the Controlled Substance Act

B. The DEA's argument against removing Hemp from the Controlled Substance Act

C.  The DEA and Politicians argument against Industrial Hemp Farming

III.  Uses of Hemp

A.    Food products and nutritional facts
 
B.     Building uses, hempcrete, insulation,
 
C.     Paper, hemp fiber products
 
D.    Clothing, durable, long lasting vs cotton 

IV.  Impact of Industrial Hemp in the USA
          
           A.  Sustainability, growth habits of hemp

           B.  Environment benefits; less water use and land requirements vs. forestry

           C.  Revenue from farming and production
 
Conclusion:  Facts in support of removing hemp from the controlled substance Act make perfect sense.  Industrial hemp was once a part of American farming.  Agricultural hemp is a safe, and viable industry.  The propaganda of the past should be laid to rest.

  1. This is a pretty basic outline. I would recommend elaborating on some of your details a bit more and being more specific. Moreover, I am not seeing a paragraph (or two) about the opposing side. What do those that oppose this argument think or say? This needs to be in your essay, as this is more than a persuasive essay, it is an argument and you need to support your claim, but examine the opposing side, as well.

  2. looks like a great outline, i was expecting to see you persuade your audience to legalize marijuana but hemp is a whole new take. do you think that you can fill up 7 pages with only 4 bullet points though?
